Clark Road Animal Clinic, located at 5728 Clark Road in Sarasota, has been providing quality veterinary services including diagnostics, wellness vaccinations, grooming and treatment of illnesses and injuries to pets of all types since 1986.     Thom A. Smith, DVM, Practice Owner

    Thom A. Smith was born in Massina, NY, but has lived in Sarasota since 1974.  He earned both his undergraduate and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degrees from the University of Florida.  After working independently at area vet clinics and hospitals, Dr. Smith purchased Clark Road Animal Clinic in May 2003.  Under his direction, Clark Road Animal Clinic has grown from 1 doctor and 2 employees to 3 doctors and 10 employees.  Dr. Smith's enterprises also include a local pet supply store (Sunrise Pet Supply) which is located next door to the clinc.

    When not working, Dr. Smith enjoys swimming with his son and playing with the family's Papillon, Lilly.  Dr. Smith and his wife also enjoy walks on the beach and going out for dinner and a movie.

    Evelyn Andre Hansen, DVM

    Evelyn Andre Hansen graduated from the University of Florida in 1992 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree.  Dr. Andre immediately pursued a career in small animal medicine in Sarasota while concentrating in general medicine, surgical and wellness care.  Dr. Andre has been working at Clark Road Animal Clinic since 2003.  Dr. Andre finds great satisfaction working directly with the wondering, caring clients and staff of Clark Road Animal Clinic.

    When not at work, Dr. Andre and her husband can be found playing with their two daughters, four dogs and three cats.  She is an active member of local and national veterinary medical associations, which work to establish and maintain quality animal care in the United States.

  • Vanessa Bevelacqua, Head Receptionist

    Vanessa Bevelacqua, Head Receptionist

    Vanessa Bevelacqua is the head receptionist for Clark Road Animal Clinic.  She has worked here since 2000 and has remained a vital staff member when ownership was transferred to Dr. Smith in 2003.  Although her primary role is head receptionist, Vanessa will also serve as a veterinary assistant when needed.  Vanessa really enjoys working with animals and finds her role very rewarding.  Her favorite part of working at this clinic is meeting new clients and developing lasting relationships with them and seeing her “other family”.

    Vanessa graduated from Venice High School in 1999 and attended one year at Florida Gulf Coast University.  She and her fiancee enjoy their blended family including four sons, Andrew, Joe, Carter and Jaxson,  two dogs, Benji and Guiness, and four cats, Phoenix, Liem, Mama Mia and Squirrely.  When not working, Vanessa can be found pet sitting, reading, golfing or playing with her family at the beach.

    Serissa Thompson, Receptionist

    Serissa Thompson is a receptionist for Clark Road Animal Clinic.  She has worked at this clinic since 2007.  She has also worked with Dr. Smith in the Sarasota veterinary community since 1997.  Her favorite aspect of working at this clinic is the strong “family-like” bond that has developed among the staff members.

    Serissa earned her AA in business from Manatee Community College in 2010 and her Law Enforcement Certification from Sarasota County Technical Institute in 2008.  Having been raised on a farm in Sarasota, Serissa engenders a deep love of animals.  She and her son own many animals ranging from cows and horses to dogs and frogs.  When not at work, Serissa can be found riding her horses and preparing for competition.  She and her son enjoy watching football (Go Gators!) And participating in local sporting events (especially T-Ball!).

    Tammy Dreyer, CVT

    Tammy Dreyer is a certified veterinary technician (CVT) at Clark Road Animal Clinic.  She graduated in 1999 from St. Pete College with a degree in Veterinary Technology.  Tammy has been working at Clark Road Animal Clinic since 2004.  She has also worked with Dr. Smith in the Sarasota veterinary community since 1996.  Her favorite part about working at this clinic is the close relationships she has with her co-workers and clients.

    Tammy spends her time balancing the responsibilities of work and home life.  Home life is busy with her children and her animal family, which seems to grow by four legs a week.

    Sarah Reeser, CVT

    Sarah Reeser is a certified veterinary technician (CVT) at Clark Road Animal Clinic.  She earned her AS in Veterinary Technology in 1996 from St. Pete Community College.  She also holds an AS in Zoo Animal Technology from Santa Fe Community College and a BA in Early Child Education from the University of South Florida.  Sarah has worked at Clark Road Animal Clinic since 2004.  She has also worked with Dr. Smith in the Sarasota veterinary community since 1997.  Sarah’s favorite aspects of her job are coming to work with her “family” every day and caring for animals.

    When not at work, Sarah and her husband enjoy spending time with their two cats, BB and Trouble, and exploring the restaurant scene in Sarasota.  Sarah is also a member of the local veterinary medical association.

    Leanne Nelson, CVT

    Leanne Nelson is a certified veterinary technician (CVT) at Clark Road Animal Clinic. She has been in the veterinary field since 2006 and with this clinic since 2009.  Leanne graduated from St. Pete College in 2009 with a degree in Veterinary Technology.  She especially enjoys the areas of dentistry, internal medicine, surgery and client education.  The team-player environment is Leanne’s favorite part about coming to work each day.

    When not at work, Leanne and her husband can be found enjoying the company of their two dogs, Reese and Brie.  Leanne also likes to play volleyball, watch movies and read good books.

    Janine Rocca, Veterinary Technician

    Janine Rocca is a veterinary technician at Clark Road Animal Clinic.  She has been working in the veterinary field since 2004 and at Clark Road Animal Clinic since 2008.  Her experience includes internal medicine and oncology.  Janine is also interested in the areas of dentistry, surgery and oncology.  Janine feels Clark Road Animal Clinic is a “home away from home.”  Her favorite element of working at this clinic is how the doctors and staff work as “one” to go above and beyond the needs and expectations of their patients and clients.

    Originally from New York, Janine has lived most of her life in Sarasota.  She earned her BA in Communication and Science Disorders from the University of South Florida in 2004.  She has four cats and one dog (that sometimes thinks she’s a cat).  When not at work, Janine can be found pet sitting.

    Lauren Bridgeman, Receptionist

    Lauren Bridgeman is a receptionist for Clark Road Animal Clinic.  She has worked with the clinic since 1999.  Initially employed as a full time veterinary assitant, Lauren now works part time as a receptionist.  Lauren's favorite part of working at the clinic is her family-like bond with the clinic staff, clients, and animals.

    Lauren graduated in 1996 from American High School, and earned her veterinary assistant certification in 1999 through Harcourt Learning Direct correspondence program.  When not working, Lauren can be found spending time with her husband of 14yrs, their two daughters, and their dog, cat, and rabbit.  She loves to read, going out to dinner and a movie, and rollerskating.

    Lori Wilson, Receptionist

    Lori Wilson is a receptionist for Clark Road Animal Clinic.  Lori joined the team in 2011 and brings over 31 years of experience to her role.  Lori has also worked intermittently with Dr. Smith in the veterinary community since 1984.  Her favorite aspect of working at the clinic is the family atmosphere.

    When not working, Lori enjoys spending time with her husband of 30 years, hertwo children, and two grandchildren.  She has two labs and both dogs are certified therapy dogs.  Lori rounds out her animal family with 3 cats, 3 horses and 2 cows.  Lori is actively involved in the community as a 4-H leader, having worked with youths for more then 18 years.
